A warm welcome to the Warm Heart of Africa – Malawi!
In December 2023, the GLM CPR team travelled to Malawi’s southeast corner to help establish Malawi’s first Cerebral Palsy register. The team Malawi recruited over 500+ children with CP into the Register.
The GLM CPR team can now testify to the significant need in Malawi for improved healthcare access, aid devices, and more innovative rehabilitation programs. To this end, GLM CPR is investing $45,000 over 12 months to build a program to do just that. Its our hope that additional resourcing will help grow the Malawi site into a beacon for CP management in low-resource settings.
The Malawi team are an impressive bunch, having shown diligence, compassion, and affinity to the plight of children with cerebral palsy. For their efforts, we now have a better understanding of the prevalence, clinical presentation, risk factors, and healthcare access of over 500 highly vulnerable Malawian children with CP.
It is teams like the Malawi team which motivate us to keep striving for something better of the global population of children with CP.
We look forward to seeing the outputs of this program – watch this space!
