RESEARCH &
COLLABORATIONS.
The GLM CPR is a pioneer in implementing impactful research on cerebral palsy and childhood disability with strong global partnerships
THE 10/90
GAP.
There is a disproportionate allocation of resources in global health research, where only 10% of funds are directed towards addressing 90% of the world's health problems. This imbalance highlights the urgent need for increased investment in studying and combating conditions such as Cerebral Palsy prevalent in low and middle-income countries.
The GLM CPR is working towards creating an equitable research environment for the majority world population.
ONGOING
PROJECTS.
Keep up to date on our most recent projects
A few of the ongoing research in LMICs are listed below:
GLM CPR aims to grow and develop a global data repository, knowledge base, regionally applicable strategies and models, and a global network for the prevention and management of cerebral palsy in LMICs through research, capacity building, service delivery, and advocacy. Funded by the Cerebral Palsy Alliance and the National Health and Medical Research Council, the project was commenced in 2017. To date, our affiliated CP registers have recruited 6,292+ children with CP from LMICs, published 81+ papers, presented 30+ abstracts at national and international conferences, developed 7+ manuals/ guidelines, and supported four PhD and postdoctoral researchers.
The Bangladesh Cerebral Palsy Register is the first population-based surveillance of children with cerebral palsy in an LMIC which has been led and implemented by CSF Global (www.csf-global.org). Established in 2015, to date, the BCPR has registered 4200+ children with CP in Bangladesh, facilitated over ten studies including two randomized controlled trials, published over 30 articles in peer-reviewed journals on diverse area, and provided a platform for six early intervention and rehabilitation centres and an assistive device center.
Argentinian Cerebral Palsy Register (RAR-PC)
The Argentine Cerebral Palsy Register (RAR-PC) is the first and ongoing epidemiological surveillance of children with CP in Argentina. Since its establishment in 2021, the RAR-PC has gradually expanded its network by including health and rehabilitation centres providing services to children with cerebral palsy in different parts of the country. Currently, the RAR-PC has registered 230+ children with CP in their database. The preliminary findings have also been presented at two international conferences.
Malawian Cerebral Palsy Register: a cross-sectional, community-based pilot study
The Malawian Cerebral Palsy Register is a community-based survey of children with CP in Mulanje District of Malawi. This study aims to develop a platform for the national CP register in Malawi to facilitate studies on prevalence, severity, aetiology, associated impairments and risk factors for children with CP in Malawi. Since its inception in April 2023, the study has facilitated training for community health workers on the identification and referral of children with CP in their community and has generated preliminary data on risk factors of CP in the study area. As to date, the Malawian Cerebral Palsy Register has recruited 563 children.
Global Cerebral Palsy Nutrition Program (GCPN)
Supported by CSF Global and Cerebral Palsy Alliance, Australia, the Global CP Nutrition Program aims to conduct translational research on nutritional epidemiology, nutritional assessment, and monitoring, models of cost-effective culturally appropriate nutrition intervention, and advocate for prevention and control of malnutrition among children with CP in LMICs. Commenced in 2021, to date, GCPN has supported over 250 children with CP and severe malnutrition in Bangladesh, leading several nutrition intervention projects, and generating evidence in this important area.

COLLABORATION
OPPORTUNITIES.
Are you interested in a global collaboration?
We conduct collaborative and translational research on cerebral palsy in diverse areas, e.g. epidemiology, clinical features, risk factors, early detection and intervention, nutrition, social capital, quality of life, education, health literacy, participation, empowerment, and rehabilitation in low-resource settings. We would like to have the opportunity to hear about your research and welcome any ideas from the ground. If you are interested in collaborating, please feel free to contact us.
