ABOUT THE TRAINING

Doctors, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists/speech pathologists.
TRAINING OBJECTIVE
This training is designed to equip health care professionals with necessary knowledge and skills required to employ early screening tools, including General Movement Assessment and Hammersmith Infant Neurological Examination (HINE), to identify infants who are at risk of developing cerebral palsy (CP) and apply evidence-based early intervention strategies to improve the health and well-being of the children diagnosed as high-risk for CP or highly predictive of CP.
TRAINING CONTENTS
Evidence supporting the use of early detection tools
Basics of General Movement Assessment (GMA) and how to record videos for GMA
HINE assessment in infants at high risk of cerebral palsy
Evidence on intervention strategies for infants and your children with cerebral palsy
Goal setting using Canadian Occupational Performance Measure (COPM)
Early intervention strategies (e.g. Goal Directed Training (GDT), Game Activity Motor Enrichment (GAME), Constraint Induced Movement Therapy (CIMT), Bimanual Therapy (BT), Home Program (HP)
International practice guidelines for children with CP
LEARNING OUTCOMES
At the end of the training session, the participants will be able to-
Learn about evidenced-based early detection tools (e.g. GMA and HINE)
Record videos of movement of infants at high-risk of developing CP for GMA
Complete HINE assessment for high-risk infants and interpret the HINE scores
Work with primary caregivers to set goals for intervention planning
Apply evidence-based early intervention strategies including GDT, GAME, CIMT, BT and HP following the international practice guidelines
